Set B7 - Freshwater Fish - card information

8. Golden Orfe
(Leuciscus idus)

8. Golden Orfe

The Orfe resembles the Dace and is very common in Germany and Russia; a golden variety of it has been introduced in many ornamental ponds, where it is a favourite on account of its golden pink colour and liveliness. It is as slim as a Dace and very active, with a short concave dorsal fin (unlike the Goldfish); it has no barbels, which distinguishes it from the golden varieties of Tench and Carp. The Golden Orfe has not spread to open waters, and in consequence there are no British angling records.
