This species and the closely related Small-mouth (Micropterus dolomieu) are well-known sporting fish of North America. They have been introduced in a few British waters, but are far from common. They resemble the Perch, but differ from it in having four or five dark transversal stripes on the head, and the second dorsal fin higher than the first; also, the general coloration is considerably darker, and the snout sharper. There are no British sporting records available. |
