Set B6 - Wild Flowers Series 2 - card information

5. Periwinkle (Vinca: major L.)

5. Periwinkle

A plant of the milder parts of Britain, growing in hedgerows and rough copses. It has long trailing stems, from which grow the erect flower stalks, and from which it puts down roots at every node. lts flowers may be seen in greatest numbers in April and May, but blooms appear through-out the year. This painting was made from I flower in early February. lt retains its leaves all through the Winter. Not a native although it has grown in Britain at least since Chaucer's time.
