Set B6 - Wild Flowers Series 2 - card information

50. Meadow Saffron
(Colchicum autumnale L.)

50. Meadow Saffron

In the Autumn months the delicate blooms of the Meadow Saffron may be found growing in damp pastures and meadows, and in woods; its flowers quite unprotected by leaves of any kind. Its broad leaves and fruits appear in Spring, and by the time the flowers appear are no longer to be seen. Though it may be found in England and Wales it is very local in its distribution, and cannot be considered common.
